Belinda Says Hay: “Congratulations to Abigail’s Dad”

Hello. It's Belinda.

Did you read the big news on Wednesday?

I mean in the "Abigail's House of Buns" novel. A new chapter comes out every week.

Merlot is the Small Pet Select novelist and she wrote a "special edition." It's called "10 Years Down the Rabbit Hole." 

It's all about Merlot's human roommate. I call him "Abigail's dad." 

It turns out he's celebrating 10 years of helping rabbits. Which started when he rescued Abigail and turned into living with Bentley, Mocha, Hobo, Enzo, Merlot, Turbo and Dino. 

They weren't all at the House of Buns at the same time but still. 

My roommate calls him "Maurice" by the way. I hear them on the phone sometimes. They talk about us. 

Anyway, Wednesday afternoon, my roommate was pulling clothes out of the dryer and dumping them into a laundry basket when she saw me reading the chapter about Abigail's dad.

"What's that, Belinda?"

I wish she wouldn't look at my computer screen. It's private company information.

Next thing you know she's leaning over my right shoulder reading.

"Oh my word. It's been 10 years since Abigail's dad brought her home."

She reached over and hit the arrow button to scroll down the page. I wasn't done reading the top part yet.

"He's photographed almost 2000 shelter rabbits! Abigail sure did raise him right."

Then she laughed. I don't know what's so funny because it's true. Abigail did a great job teaching her dad about helping rabbits.

"And he sure has done a lot for rabbits over the years. And for everyone who wants to take good care of them."

She stood and picked up the laundry basket.

"It's very inspiring, Belinda. I don't do half of what he does."

She was barely up the steps to the kitchen before it started.

"Sounds like Abigail's dad is a big shot." 

The English. I ignored him.

"He probably needs help with all those chores. Like cleaning the Star Wars room he rigged up for those two rabbits."

Good grief. It's not Star Wars. It's Star Trek. 

"I bet he could use a break after 10 years."

Then he said it.

"I think you should move to California. Move to the House of Buns and do something useful."

Now if you read this far I would like to ask you something.

How can the English be such a pill?

This blog is about all the good work Abigail's dad has done over the past 10 years. And somehow you-know-who makes it about himself.

Enough of that.

For now, I want to say "Way to go" to Abigail's dad, and to all the rabbits who help him educate other roommates.
